This rings so true to me. I linked this to my daughter who is just finishing up her junior year at university and asked her to listen well. College truly is a means to an end and is all about getting your foot in the door. Not that you don't learn some valuable tools and knowledge along the way. All other things being equal, I'll hire someone with 5 years of real world experience over someone with 5 years of schooling under their belt every time.

@RJ Thanks for your input. The safest route that many of us have taken is to get both - formal education AND experience. There's another facet of education that we training people like to call "Informal Learning," which I'll write more about in a future post.
